Roy Herbert Lowery – 86
Of Valdosta, GA passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at his home. He was born on September 7, 1932 in Oak Park, GA to the late Horace A. White and Lucy Kate Dukes White. He was adopted in 1941, from the Baptist Children’s Home in Baxley, GA by James Bishop and Gentie (Watson) Lowery. He graduated from Valdosta High School and attended Valdosta State College. He worked with Norfolk Southern Railroad for 40 years. Roy had many accomplishments in his life. He was the first candidate to run for public office on the Republican ticket, in the history of Lowndes County. He and his wife were the first to apply for a city license to open a catering service in the city. He also opened the first after hour’s medical clinic in the city. Along with his parents and adopted parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mattie Lee Wickstrom; brothers, Robert White, Hoffard White, and Charles White; and the light of his life, Donna Lowery Johnson, his daughter.
Survivors include: Wife, Marjorie J. Lowery of Valdosta, GA; Son and Daughter-in-law, Ronald H. and Sandy Lowery of Valdosta, GA; Son, Kenneth P. Lowery of Valdosta, GA; Adopted Sister, Helen Wilson; Brother, Joseph Lee; 6 Grandchildren: Richard Lowery, Elaine Randolph, Kenneth Lowery, Jr, Ashley Lowery, Jarid Johnson and Cameron Johnson, and seven Great Grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 14, 2019 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Messages of sympathy may be expressed online at www.musicfuneralservices.com . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “J” dollar ministry of First United Methodist Church, 220 N. Patterson Street, Valdosta, GA 31601. The “J” dollar ministry was introduced by Roy and his wife. The “Jesus” dollars help local children with life threatening diseases with medical expenses. The compassionate and caring staff of Music Funeral Services, Azalea Crematory in Valdosta is caring for Mr. Lowery’s family.
