Roy A. Sumner, 71, of Valdosta, GA passed away early Friday evening December 18, 2009 at his residence after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born August 31, 1938 in Lowndes Co. GA to the late Herman and Ted Elizabeth Griffin Sumner. He owned and operated Zant's Flower Shop since 1966, was a Funeral Director at heart operating Sumner Funeral Home in Valdosta between 1976 and 1996, at the current location of what is now Music Funeral Services on North Valdosta Road. He was a member of the Valdosta Day Lions Club, serving as the past Deputy District Governor, Past Master of Hahira Masonic Lodge # 346, 3rd National Vice President of Travelers Protective Association, and the Valdosta Elks Club. He was also a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his brother Paul Sumner, and Brother-in-Law, Elmer Blansfield.
Survivors include his wife of 52 Years, Doris Futch Sumner , of Valdosta, GA;
2 Sons and Daughter-in-Law, Greg Sumner, and Bruce and Dorothy Sumner, all of Valdosta; Sisters and Brother-in-Law, Margaret S. Boots Blansfield of Bear, DE; and Christie Beth and Randall McClellan, Valdosta; Brothers and Sisters-in-Law, Robert and Rosalyn Sumner, Lake Park; Carroll and Melinda Sumner, Roxboro, NC; and Janice Sumner of Valdosta;
Grandchildren, Amanda, Blade, and Dalton; and a Great Granddaughter, Gracie Lynn; and a cat named Sue.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with Burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta, GA Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6:00-8:00pm.
