Of Valdosta, GA formally of Angermuende, Germany passed away Monday April 8, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by loving family members after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's and arthritic spine disease. She is preceded in death by 2 Brothers, Gerhart Merkel and Hans Merkel and 2 Sisters, Hannelore Seil and Heidi Wischnewski all of Germany.

Ruth was christened in Germany. She received her certificate of Citizenship in 1952 and was married to Robert Flumerfelt, a medical Lab technician for 64 years.

She would like to be remembered for her lifelong dedication to the care of young children: She taught kindergarten children in Germany. She was a Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout Leader and swimming class instructor for Down-Syndrome youngsters in Oswego N.Y. She helped with the nursery at First United Methodist Church in Valdosta and helped several individual families with Children in Valdosta and loved doing it.
