Of Valdosta, Georgia passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born to the late Shelton James Skinner, Sr. and Armittie Skinner on November 9, 1932, in Lakeland, Georgia. Shelton James Skinner Jr. devoted his life to hard work, service, and love for his country. He made his living as a dedicated truck driver, taking great pride in the miles he traveled and the people he met along the way. Before that, he honorably served in the United States Army, a commitment he carried with deep pride and patriotism throughout his life. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Myrtice Bennett Skinner and stepson, Tony Cheshire.

Survivors include his stepsons: Jerry Cheshire of Nahunta, Georgia and Glen Cheshire of Jacksonville, Florida; stepdaughter, Faye Cheshire of Waycross, Georgia; sister, Doris Cumbus of Valdosta, Georgia; brother, Ronald Skinner of Ray City, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 10, 2025, in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services.
