Swenson Bennett

July 16, 1948 — May 21, 2021

Swenson Bennett, aged 72, of Stockton, Georgia, passed away Friday, May 21st, 2021 after a lengthy illness while being cared for at home. He was born on July 16th, 1948 in Stockton, Georgia to the late William Aubrey Bennett and Lillie Mae Courson Bennett. Swenson was a 1966 graduate of Lanier County High School. Following high school, he moved to Savannah, Georgia where he served as a fireman for the Savannah Fire Department for five years. He then moved back home to Stockton and held various positions in several industries until he found his personal and professional niche as an owner/operator of a small trucking company until his retirement in 2011. Swenson was always full of life, and had a tremendous passion for helping others, whether it be helping neighbors with a leaky faucet or stranded motorists on the highways he would encounter while working in the trucking industry. Swenson was well known in the local area, and he never met a stranger, often greeting fellow Lanier County residents with introductory phrases such as “Just fine, how are you?” along with being “smooth as silk” when asked how he was getting along. Additionally, his devotion for helping others extended from his life into death. He insisted that his body be donated for science and medical research to help others in his death as he always did in life. Swenson enjoyed fishing, gardening, spending time with his family, and making people laugh!
He was preceded in death by father William Aubrey Bennett and mother Lillie Mae Bennett, older brother Willis Studstill, and sister Christine Ferrell. He is survived by a brother, William Carroll Bennett of Stockton, Georgia, and three children: son Marty Bennett (wife Wendy) of Cairo, Georgia, daughter Catina Mathis (husband Vann) of Stockton, Georgia, and daughter Crystal Jackson (husband James) of Bonaire, Georgia. He is also survived by two grandsons who he loved immeasurably: Ian Christopher Jackson and Jacob Swenson Bennett. He is also survived by his wife Eddie Marcia Griffin Bennett.
A celebration of his life will be planned and held in the upcoming weeks. It is respectfully requested that a donation in the name of Swenson Bennett be made to Lovejoy Community Church or the Lovejoy Food Pantry in Lakeland, Georgia in lieu of food and/or flower donations.
