Vergil Lee Hesler, 92, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, in Valdosta, Georgia. He was born November 30, 1932, in Stockwell, Indiana, to Marvin “Pete” Hesler and Edna Lucille Stingley Hesler.
“The generous man is a source of blessing and shall be prosperous and enriched and he who waters will himself be watered reaping the generosity he has sown.” Proverbs 11:25. Vergil Hesler was a generous, kindhearted, caring, gentle soul who was a source of blessing, love, joy and friendship to others he met along his life’s journey. He loved to lend a helping hand to others wherever and however he could. He was always ready to share a joke with anyone who would listen, which might be a new one or one he may have told you several times before, but it was just as funny to him as it was the last time he told it. His supply of Werther’s Original Caramel candies he carried in his pocket never ran out and you could be sure he would share a few with you whether you were a close friend or a stranger on the street. He loved his friends and made sure they knew it if just by an unexpected phone call when you would hear, “This is ‘ol man Vergil, just calling to check on you!” and would end simply with, “Love ya’!”
Along with his parents, Vergil is preceded in death by his sister, Helen Louise Hesler Rusk Schroder (1924-2015) and twin brother, Vern Dee Hesler (1932-1939).
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 23, 2025 at the Park Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2285 E. Park Avenue, Valdosta, Georgia, with Pastor Day Fernandez and Pastor Jim Peterson of Christ Fellowship Church, 417 Connell Road, Valdosta, Georgia, officiating. Interment will follow at a later date at Johnson Cemetery, Stockwell, Indiana, where Vergil will be laid to rest beside his twin brother, Vern Dee Hesler.
