Vernelle Ferguson – 78
Of Dasher, Georgia passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Ferguson was born January 18, 1944 in Nashville, Georgia to the late Vernie (Kirkland) and Ernest Melvin Spells. She was a hard-working lady that loved her family. She enjoyed her time working in packaging at Cracking Good Bakery and serving children in the Lowndes County School System. The later years of her career were spent in the medical field where she retired as receptionist for Dr. William Nijem. She had a great love for the Christmas season and spent much time building a Christmas Village room. Mrs. Ferguson enjoyed traveling with friends, but her greatest love was going to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nothing gave her greater joy than spending time with them and watching them grow. Along with her parents, Mrs. Ferguson is preceded in death by her first husband, William Marcus Rice; and her only child, daughter, Kelley Ellis.
Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her husband of 30 years, Wesley Ferguson; two stepsons: Keith Ferguson of Lakeland, Georgia and Bruce Ferguson of Arizona; granddaughter, Lindsay Nicole Mendiola (Kin) of Nancy, Kentucky; grandson, Colby Ellis of Valdosta, Georgia; step grandson, Raeden Mendinola; great-granddaughter, Kelley Makenzie Elswick; great-great-grandson, Oakleigh Poe; friends: Michelle Polette of Valdosta, Georgia, Zane and Debbie Allen of Valdosta, Georgia, and many others.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 2, 2022 Empire Cemetery, 32 Empire Church Rd., Lakeland, GA 31635. Kind words and expressions of sympathy can be left for the family at
