Virgil Oliver Griffis - 76
Virgil Oliver Griffis, 76, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Merritt Island, FL on September 30, 1939 to the late Leo Weston Griffis and Ida McBride Griffis. Mr. Griffis was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a green beret. Mr. Griffis was a published author and an artist who wrote "Beyond the Peace River". Mr. Griffis was preceded in death by his stepmother, Edna Griffis; two brothers, Leo Eugene Griffis and Clifford Griffis; and a sister, Queen Ester Lively.

Wife of 20 years, Melody Griffis of Barney, GA; Daughter, Kim Patton of Valdosta, GA; Daughter, Heather Griffis of Valdosta, GA; Son, Larry Griffis of Valdosta, GA; Daughter and Son-in-Law, Kristina Smith Scott of Cocoa, FL; Son, Stephen Smith of Cocoa, FL; Son and Daughter-in-Law, Alan Smith Holly of Barney, GA; Son and Daughter-in-Law, Patrick Smith Taylor of Valdosta, GA; Nephew and Family, Paul Griffis Kari, Laura, GingerLakeland, GA; Grandchildren: Megan Spells, Eric Griffis, Bernita Griffis, Cecilia Griffis, Emily Griffis, Andrea Griffis, Morgan Tinsley, Ember Smith, Laci Smith, Brooklyn Smith, Danica Smith; Great Grandchildren: Sophia Scalf and Josiah Griffis; Two Brothers, Ellery Griffis of Jacksonville, FL and Amos Dawley of Barberville, FL; Sister, Pat Redfern of Merritt Island, FL; A number of nieces and nephews.
Per Mr. Griffis' wishes, he will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Music Funeral Services in Valdosta, GA.
