Walter “Kenny” Thurman – 62
Of Valdosta, Georgia passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Kenny was born December 30, 1959 in Clearwater, Florida to the late Elmer Claude Thurman and Ruthie Greek Thomas. He was an electrician by trade and worked many years in the electrical industry with the Chicago IBEW. Kenny was a veteran of the United States Army and served our country proudly for four years and while on tour in Germany he met his soulmate. He said he heard wedding bells when he saw Karen. Their love existed for 43 beautiful years and throughout that time they wore matching shirts, always held hands and were inseparable. Their love continues and is never-ending. God was at the center of their lives. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Kenny loved the Lord and was attending Bible College where he was nearing graduation. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ruth Thurman.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Karen Thurman of Valdosta, Georgia; children: Stephanie Hanner (Bill), Centerville, Georgia and Shawn Thurman (Alicia), Valdosta, Georgia; grandchildren: Trent Hanner, Coby Thurman, Caleb Thurman, and Carter Thurman; sisters: Sissy Carnline (Johnny), Belleville, Florida; Dana Spivey (Robert), Jasper, Florida, Ruth Ann Saunders (Mark), Valdosta, Georgia; Daisy Scott (Lance), Lake Park, Georgia; brothers: James Thurman, Valdosta, Georgia; Robert Thomas, Lake Park, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o’clock p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 1:00 o’clock p.m. Kind words and expressions of sympathy can be left for the family at
