William Earl Boyett – 87 of Lakeland passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019 at his residence after a short illness. He was born September 15, 1931 in Lakeland, GA to the late Edd & Mattie (Deen) Boyett. Mr. Earl joined the Ray City First Baptist Church in 1946. In later years he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher. After graduating high school in 1948, he attended ABAC. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 but his military service was cut short with the death of his father in 1952. He enjoyed spending time in his yard and garden. During his life he worked in various areas but mostly enjoyed farming and appraising property. His appraisal career began with The Herndon Company and eventually he started Earl Boyett Appraisals. He loved Lanier County and the surrounding area, devoting his time and efforts into making it a better place. He served as a member of Lanier County Board of Education 1961 – 1980. He helped to establish the Lanier County Board of Tax Assessors as well as assisted in the naming of the roads in Lanier County. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Rhea Jones Boyett; sisters & brothers-in-law: Doris & John Sears, Dot & Charles Howell, Irene & Paul Smith and brothers-in-law: Leslie Davidson and Royce Jones.
Survivors Include: Wife: Betty Boyett, Lakeland, GA; 2 Daughters & Sons-in-law: Chris & David Logan , Ball Ground, GA Tina & Ben Strickland, Lakeland, GA; 4 Grandchildren: Joy Clarkston (Shawn Schumacher), Kelly Edge (David), Adam Logan (Haley) & Brent Strickland (Taylor); 3 Great Grandchildren: Coy & Reagan Edge and Mallory Strickland; Sister: Louise Davidson, Bonaire, GA; Sister-in-law: Betty Sue Jones, Tifton, GA; a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; Other special loved ones include: William Barker (Donna), Ray City, GA; Lora Davis (Mike), Columbus, GA; and Casey West, Hue Barker & Abby Barker
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in the Ray City First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Beaver Dam Cemetery. He will be placed in the church one hour prior to the services. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, May 6, 2019 at the funeral home.
