William Silas Buchanan Sr., age 84, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Born on October 22, 1941, in Bryson City, North Carolina, he was the son of Silas Alfred Buchanan and Ella May Headen Buchanan.
William was a man who found deep joy in life’s simple, meaningful pleasures and shared that joy generously with everyone around him. William served honorably for 24 years as an Aircraft Mechanic in the US Air Force. An avid golfer, he spent countless hours on the greens at Stone Creek Golf Course, where the game was more than a pastime—it was a lifelong passion. That passion became his profession, as he proudly served for many years as the golf pro at Quiet Pines Golf Course, but his greatest joy in life was his two grandkids.
Beyond the fairways, William found peace in fishing and great happiness in gathering with family and friends to enjoy fresh seafood and good company. He also had a fond appreciation for grandfather clocks, drawn to their timeless craftsmanship and the steady rhythm that seemed to mirror his own calm and thoughtful nature.
Warm, welcoming, and genuine, William lived a life rooted in connection—to his work, his hobbies, and most importantly, to the people he loved. He will be remembered for his easy smile, his steady presence, and the many moments of laughter and kindness he shared so freely.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas Buchanan and Ella Buchanan, as well as six siblings.
He is survived by his son, William “Bucky” Buchanan Jr. of Sumter, South Carolina; and his two grandchildren, Zander Buchanan and Elliott Buchanan, both of Rota, Spain.
The family will hold a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Quiet Pines Golf Course at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. Kind words and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.musicfuneralservices.com. The Buchanan family is being served by the caring and professional staff of Music Funeral Services of Valdosta.
