William Burke Garrett, Jr., age 84, of Naylor, Georgia, died May 25, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born to the late Jeanette Hobbs and William Burke Garrett, Sr. in Mary Alice Kentucky on September 7, 1936. After completing high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia. It was there that he met his future bride at the Brookwood Pharmacy Soda Shoppe and married her three months later. He worked at Owens Illinois which is now PCA as a plant supervisor for over 25 years. He was not willing to stay still, and he began another 25-year career with Dowling Bag. He loved his precious family, and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Donald Garrett, Evelyn Brown, and Belle Oberg.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years Mildred W. Garrett of Naylor, Georgia. He was blessed with nine wonderful children: Burke and Kim Garrett of Kennesaw, Georgia, Jil and John Branan of Billerica, Massachusetts, Michael “Slim” and April Garrett of Adel, Georgia, Jon and Jennifer Garrett of Valdosta, Georgia, Ben and Amanda Garrett of Alma, Georgia, Jenny and Steven Williams of Madison, Florida, Jane and Patches Phillips of Naylor, Georgia, Elizabeth Garrett of Hahira, Georgia, Sam Garrett and Ann Wing of Pittsboro, North Carolina. He was proud of his sixteen grandchildren, Matt Garrett (Braedon), Kenyon Branan, Steve Branan, John Hutchinson, Haley Garrett, Grant Garrett, Carli Garrett, Courtney Williams, Coleman Williams, Isabella Phillips, Garrett Phillips, Amber Garrett, Ava Garrett, Miles Garrett, Loa Garrett, Malcolm Garrett. He is also survived by one brother, Wayne Garrett of Longmont, Colorado.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 28, 2021 at Empire Cemetery in Lakeland, Georgia. No formal visitation will be held.
