William Charles Steel Jr.

William Charles Steel, Jr. – 87 of Valdosta, GA went to be with the Lord on Sunday April 5, 2020. He was born on March 24, 1933 in Pittsburg, PA to the late Rosamond (Beard) and William Charles Steel, Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of both the American Legion and Sons of American Revolution. William will fondly be remembered for dressing up as Santa to the Valdosta region. William’s daughter, Kim has prepared the thoughts of the children during this time: Well it's happened! Both our mom and dad and our children’s grandparents are gone, but neither will ever be forgotten! Mom was our rock!! Dad pushed us to be who we are in so many ways that we can't even describe it or put into words and didn’t really understand while he moved us from one area of our lives to the next. I for one am thankful for the things he taught me. I loved his wit and ability to do whatever he set his mind to and his generosity to others. Like the rest, I wasn’t a fan of his stern strict side, but it did push us to be all that we can be. Even if we didn’t like him while it was going on! We all had different relationships with him during our lives. One thing we all had was he made us laugh, cry or sometimes go crazy. He also made sure we were fed, had clothes, and a roof over our head. He was Mom’s Super Bill and therefore to me he was our super dad. She loved him with everything she had, and he was blessed to have her and eight beautiful, successful children. Then he gained a host of so many really great grandchildren! I know for sure how proud he was of each one of us. Not many can say that all 8 of their kids are successful!! That's a big deal. Maybe some of his harsh words and actions was his plan after all! Nearly every condolence has said He was one of a kind!! Which he most certainly was!!! Daddy was just one of a kind!! We love you all dearly!! Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Elizabeth (Cain) Steel and youngest son, David James Steel.
Survivors include: 4 Daughters, Dianne Steel and husband Stefan of Las Vegas, NV, Beth Meistickle of Atlanta, GA, Pam DeMott of Honduras, Kim Newman and husband Jerry of Valdosta, GA; 3 Sons, Chuck Steel and wife Susan of Valdosta, GA, Jeff Steel of Fernandina Beach, FL, Glenn Steel and wife Carla of Adel, GA, Daughter-in-Law, Joanna Steel of Valdosta, GA; Brother, Fred Steel and wife Connie of Kodak, TN; Many grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved him dearly.
William is to be cremated and services will be held at a later date. However, his final wishes were that his friends and family make memorials to Halcyon Hospice (515 North St Augustine Rd, Valdosta, GA 31601) in his honor.
