Yvonne Griffin Nix

Yvonne Griffin Nix, age 83, of Lakeland, Georgia, passed peacefully at her residence on Saturday, January 3, 2026. She was born on March 4, 1942, in Adel, GA to parents Elbert Griffin and Ona Evelyn Thompson Griffin.

She was a faithful housewife, her family was her greatest joy, and her husband was truly her world. Together, they shared 65 beautiful years of marriage, marked by love, devotion, and unwavering commitment. She was a deeply loving mother and wife. She worked for the Berrien County School system for seven years.

Yvonne gave selflessly of her time, volunteering with hospice, offering comfort, compassion, and grace to those in need. She was known for her forgiving spirit and her willingness to sacrifice so others could have. Above all, she held an immeasurable love for her immediate family, always placing their needs and happiness before her own. She faithfully served as the pastor of Mathis Chapel Holiness Baptist Church, dedicating 11 years to ministry and service

She is preceded by in death by her parents, and son, Paul Darron Nix.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Billy Nix of Lakeland, GA; sons James David Nix (Patricia) of Nashville, GA and Johnnie Wade Nix (Jackie Williams) of Douglas, GA; grandchildren, Jamie Nix, Jessica Nix, Nicole Wood, Jerry Wood, Bradley Wood and Dan Nix; eight great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

A graveside will be held at 12:00PM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior at 11:00AM at the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services.
